Hair Styling Products
I always say this: I don't discriminate when it come to hair styling products. As long as they work, I don't give a shit whether they're from the pharmacy or high-end salon. However, I learnt through trial and error over the years that my fine asian hair favours the latter than the former. HAHAHA.
For my hair, the ones that trully work are products from Shu Uemura, and Schwarzkopf. These are my absoloute favourite brands. Currently, I only use Shu Uemura from the lines that I mentioned. Let me talk about Shu Uemura. I've long been a fan of the brand. Since high school pa. I used to use their whitening line, and I remember vividly I had had to purchase their concealer to cover my spots for senior prom. Haha!
Back in 2011 though, I discovered that they carried a line of products for the hair. The very first styling product I've used was their "frame wax." I loved it very much because it gave me what I desired - hold and a little bit of shine. It got discontinued however. And I was devastated. I looked for an alternative. And I found one from Shiseido.
This particular product I believe is exclusively sold in department stores in Japan. I don't exactly remember how much I paid for it, but I know it was less than $30. Pricey, I know. But whatever. Haha. I've been using it for a couple of months now, and so far so good. I'm honest enough to say it's not as good as Shu Uemura's though. Nonetheless, it's still a good product. I like that it's lightweight, it gives shines, and easily washable (the "frame wax" was difficult to wash off!). Though, it doesn't give a hold! If this gave a me my desired hold, this would've been perfect.
Because I'm not completely satisfied with Shiseido, I thought of venturing back to Shu Uemura. Since the product that I love has long been discontinued, I asked the ladies at the salon for their recommendation. It was either the "shape paste" or the "clay definer." The "cotton uzo" was also mentioned but I felt like it's similar to my Shiseido. Anyway, I was assured that both are really popular, but the word "clay" kind of scared me. I have traumatic experience with clay-based wax. Haha. So ultimately, I got the "shape paste."
Onto the product. It's housed in a small deep navy container. It has a white opaque consistency with a smell that emits i-am-expensive. Haha. Truly, it is expensive! It's freakin $38. But you only need very little product so I think the lifespan will last way longer compared to the Shiseido. Like the "frame wax," the "shape paste" loves my hair. I love the hold (I don't have to use a hair spray to set it). And I love the shine it gives. Overall, it's a perfection. I'd recommend this to young professionals who have fine, straight hair. It's also perfect for those who are always on the go as it's very easy to use and very compact. I'll surely buy this again! I just hope they don't discontinue it!!!!
