Spontaneity at its best
I didn't intend to travel anytime soon, especially since I had just gone to New York City a couple of months ago (which I didn't blog about as I was in hiatus. Haha); but one night, I was leisurely browsing for tickets to Asia, and all of a sudden boom - a $645 roundtrip fare to Tokyo bombarded my very own eyes! $645 was a good deal, I told myself excitedly. I had been longing to go to the "land of the rising sun" and alas, it was clearly a big sign. I booked it singlemindedly using my Chase Sapphire Visa and four days later, I was onboard via United Airlines to my favorite city in the whole wide world!
My sojourn began on Wednesday the 23rd of May. My flight was at around 9:55 am but I got to the airport as early as 7:00 am because I wanted to wander around. I must say: the Honolulu International Airport had seen better days. I really think it's time to renovate! Wear and tear is so visible and it's embarrassing to think that it's what everyone sees upon arrival to paradise :D
Anyway, nothing caught my eyes. I didn't buy anything at duty free. But I did manage to find a cable for my phone because mine decided to conk out! Anyway, I headed to my gate shortly after.
The plane departed promptly. United utilizes Boeing 777 for their HNL-NRT routes and I must say, I was quite impressed. It's such a modern fleet! I do not have disposable income so I always choose to fly coach as space is not an issue to me. But Surprisingly my seatmate and Kevin and I got complimentary upgraded to Premium Economy! We were so ecstatic because we had so much legroom. hehe
The flight itself was really smooth. I didn't feel any turbulence at all. But what made me the flight really fun were my seatmates: Kevin and Janna. Kevin is an incoming Med Student. He's currently in Hawaii for research while Janna is a nurse. They're the two nicest people I've met in my life! We pretty much talked about anything and everything - mostly about life in Hawaii. Haha. We promised to keep in touch :)
Honolulu to Narita is only 8 hours long which is not so bad. It makes going to Japan really convenient. It's like an 8 hour shift. The fact that I had such wonderful company made a relatively short flight even shorter. Time indeed flies when you're having fun!
To be continued. . .
